This was the 7th year that Tahiti Tourisme attended the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) and Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS).
Tahiti Tourisme’s attendance at these major boat shows year after year has allowed to build an excellent network of international contacts as well as a network of “ambassadors” of the destination thanks to one on one meetings with yacht captains and owners, charter team meetings with brokerage companies, public relations events and destination seminars.
This year, one of the highlights in terms of strategic development, was reaching out to captains and crew, bringing them an increased and personalized knowledge of The Islands of Tahiti.
Taking the opportunity during this year’s MYS, Tahiti Tourisme brought their islands to a captivated audience of captains and crew with a customized seminar about French Polynesia, highlighting both the interest for yacht owners, charter clients and also for crew whilst in the area!
The seminar was arranged at the private ACrew lounge and gathered approximately 30 professionals. Captain Michael Schueler brought his support to the presentation. He shared his experience and expertise of cruising these islands when he was Master on a 50m charter yacht a few years back.
It is particularly challenging for captains and crew to make themselves available outside of their daily yacht duties during the very busy MYS.
But prior communication about this seminar proved successful and will lead to other sessions of this kind in the future. One captain attended especially as Tahiti is at the top of his owner’s bucket list and the boat will come to Tahiti in 2016.
Tahiti Tourisme understands the key role captains play in the choice of destination with their owners. Tahiti Tourisme will continue to develop tools to work closely with Captains helping to facilitate access they might need and put them in touch with the relevant local persons.
In 2011, such a seminar had been arranged during FLIBS.
